The Blood Book
This publication was curated, designed, edited and published by Chloe Devine in the fall of 2018 for her artist-in-residence project at deConstrukt Studio, Redhook.
The Blook Book is an eighty-page art journal, showcasing twelve female-identified artists. Each artist was asked to share work that reflected their relationship to the menstrual cycle to culminate in a publication of creative demonstrations of Womxnhood.
My goal was to create a tangible artifact representing the experience of the feminine bodily blood, known as menstrual blood. In the name and design of the book, I intended to balance playful and intense aesthetics and topics that would show readers the beauty within the depths of the feminine experience, while also allowing the artists to be fully expressed and seen as they relate to their feminine stories.
I invited artists to the studio, where I photographed them as they expressed their creative concepts.
La Farfalla and Fuego en La Sangre were captured in the deConstrukt studios in Redhook, Brooklyn.
Film photography was developed by myself in the studio’s in-house darkroom. Digital was shot on Fujifilm X-t200.
A select Photograph for the Fuego en La Sangre editorial was featured in the Cleveland Print Room Peer Show in 2019.
